28, 2001: Early
evening I met my friend Zaki for the opening day of the 2002 Cycle World
International Show.
There
were lots of new bikes for 2002, in special several new cruisers. We were
mostly impressed with the new and revised Yamaha R1, the FZ1 and
the brand new Suzuki V-Strom (see more pictures below).
The BMW's were also
very impressive, including the F650 GS, which I like more everytime I look
at it (It reminds me the KTM Duke II 640 LC4
- which regrettably was not present at the show).
Kawasaki did not have
anything actually "new", but showed quality motorcycles as usual.
Ducati: Always great
and exciting bikes. The legendary Ducati MH900e racer replica is not just
a motorcycle, it is also an art... and I wish I could have one parked
in the middle of my living room...
Honda had the brand
the new "naked" CB900 with that "brilliant" color... Probably next year
Honda will bring the CB900 in Bright Silver to pick up any lost sales.
It has the usual Honda quality, and I liked the exhaust under the seat
(Ducati Style).

Aprilia's
stand was not exactly outstanding, as it was small and crowded; but, nevertheless,
the bikes were outstanding !
Aprilia did not have
any 250 racing bike in their stand and suggested me to see one other stand
that had one in display.
Aprilia's representative
said they did not bring a 250 bike because it was not a street legal bike.
I wonder if he knew that
the Aprilia 250 is becoming perhaps one of the most popular 250 racing
bikes in the US and that there would be racers attending the Cycle World
Show in NYC and chances were that these same racers would like to see and
enjoy the 250 at Aprilia's stand.
Moto Guzzi:
Hey guys, bring new bikes to the show; or at least bring the used bikes
clean and spotless.
Indian: That cheesy
looking plastic indian head on top of the front fender... hmmm... and it
even lights up at night !
Well, it just looked cheesy
to me, but overall the bikes looked really nice.
The Indian Head
Harley Davidson: Their
brand new fuel injected bike and the usual HD stuff.
Bike Videos sold at the
show: Higher prices every year. This year I did not buy any video
as I do every year, as prices were kind of to the expensive side, besides
they did not have the 2001 500GP tape yet.
Other bike stuff sold
at the show (Gloves, Helmet, etc.): I have seen mail order cheaper.
Zaki was reluctant to buy his winter gloves at the show.
Food: Three hours
of show and half hour of "healthy" food. I just think I ate too much.
The show was fun and I already
look forward to the 2003 show. Hopefully next time with the whole
Classic Bikes team.
